Hey everyone, welcome back today; we will be discussing anti-rejection medication, which is prednisone; just kidding. We all know how much wheat this bill is, so let’s start with the basics. What is prednisone is, a steroid similar to hormones normally found in the body that maintain blood sugar, blood pressure, and the ability to respond to stress? How prednisone works is it lowers the activity of your immune system, so for a kidney transplant, it will decrease your immune system’s ability to respond to the new kidney as being a foreign object can also help lower certain immune-related symptoms.

Prednisone is a medication used to treat various conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis. Prednisone can have significant side effects, and people taking it should be vigilant for possible signs and symptoms of these side effects. Side effects can include increased appetite, weight gain, and fluid retention. People undergoing transplant surgery should also be aware of the risks associated with prednisone use and take steps to minimize these risks as much as possible.

Including inflammation and swelling, prednisone, though, isn’tjust used for a kidney transplant. It is also used to treat lupus, asthma rashes, and certain types of arthritis. The way I take prednisone is in five-milligram tablets. They look like this. They can also be injected or inhaled now. Prednisone isn’t just for kidney transplants. It also can help with certain kidney disorders, such as what I’m currently diagnosed with, which is IgA nephropathy.

It also helps with FSGSas well as MCD. Some background on me and my prednisone experience as I started at 20 milligrams a day. I am now about to be six months post kidney transplant, and I’m down to 5 milligrams a day. My worst side effect would have to be insomnia. I started going to bed around 3 4 a.m. I’ve gotten better. I am now going to sleep around midnight, two o’clock latest.

And I noticed that on a positive note, prednisone has let me catch up on a lot of Netflix and HBO series, so if you have insomnia like me, please let me know in the comments down below. I’ll be happy to give you my recommendations on what you should also watch. I’ve noticed that the second symptom I feel is increased appetite. Now, on dialysis I did I’m eating healthy.

Still it was very small portions; I wasn’t that hungry all the time. Now that I have been taking prednisone, I’m starving24/7. I can eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and then an hour after dinner, I am starving and looking forward to the next meal. Hence, I have to be mindful of that and not overindulge because that will lead to this third symptom. I have been eating extremely healthy, and I have been working out, and I noticed that even with all that, it takes a lot to lose one pound.

And with that, if I eat all right, you know, go to a restaurant or have a date night, whatever I eat I am gaining five pounds like a cheeseburger and fries five pounds instantly but two weeks worth of working out eating healthy I am barely losing around so I would be mindful on that because prednisone will increase your appetite. It will let you know you will gain weight on it.

Another main side effect for me is mood swings; I have noticed that I have very little patience for things ever since taking prednisone. I feel extremely bad for my boyfriend because we could be talking about literally anything. I will start to become teary-eyed, I’ll become emotional just even watching certain things on TV, I will just become a complete basket case.

side effects of prednisolone

Prednisone Side Effects My Transplant Lifestyle Thank you to prednisone for making my emotions all out of whack and me not being able to control them. Another side effect I have noticed is heartburn am a lover of spicy foods; I can’t eat spicy food every day, and it never bothered me until now. I get two to three times a week, and I have to take tums to help me, but it’s instant heartburn.

It is instant intense heartburn that I’ve never experienced until now. After talking to others that have had a kidney transplant, I’ve noticed that the main side effect is moon face hadn’t experienced moon face as bad as others have I did notice that when I look at pictures of when I was on dialysis compared to now that I do have a little.

Rounder like chipmunk cheeks sometimes in pictures it looks like more fuller I. Still, I’ve noticed that moon face is probably the most common symptom and prednisone. Other little symptoms that I’ve heard of are bruising and acne, stretch marks throughout your body, nausea, and headaches. Far as long-term side effects, osteoporosis, especially in the hips, is what I’ve heard of.

I’ve been hearing that people sometimes do need hip replacement surgery. In the most extreme cases of people, this is most people that I’ve been on high doses a high dosage of prednisone for a long period. I’ve also seen cataracts, and bone and muscle weakness, so that is also something on the negative side that you might have to look out for. Also, I’ve heard prednisone does increase blood sugar levels, so if you have diabetes, I would be mindful and maybe have a conversation with you.
